Suspension Notice

Motorists who have been issued with a Queensland Transport Suspension Notice will be banned from driving for at least 6 months, unless you are successful in applying for a Special Hardship Licence.

A Special Hardship Licence will permit you to keep driving for work purposes only while your licence is suspended.

Queensland Transport issue Suspension Notices for exceeding the speed limit by more than 40 kilometres per hour, as well for the accumulation of too many demerit points.

For example, when a motorists gets too many demerit points, Queensland Transport will issue that person with a letter requesting they choose between what is called as a Good Driving Behaviour Period, and a 3 month licence suspension.

If the motorist does nothing, they will automatically get a 3 month licence suspension.

If they choose the Good Driving Behaviour Period, they will be given 2 extra demerit points to last 12 months.

If the motorist accumulates no further demerit points during that 12 month period, the matter will be finalised.

If they do accumulate 2 or more demerit points, that will trigger a 6 month licence suspension.

If granted, a Special Hardship Licence will overlap the 6 month suspension, allowing that motorist to keep driving for work purposes only during the suspension.

A Special Hardship Licence can also be given to a motorist who has received a 6 month licence suspension for having exceeded the speed limit by 40 kilometres per hour or more.
